December 3, 2023: Armed forces develop ‘portable’ hospital, can be set up in 10 mins

New Delhi : The Indian armed forces have developed an emergency hospital set-up—consisting of more than 200 boxes/cubes of medical equipment that can be used to create a functional medical unit at any spot within 10 minutes. The prototype weighs about 700 kg and can be airdropped anywhere.
It has enough medicines and equipment to provide emergency medical aid to more than 200 people affected in any disaster situation.

The prototype of this “portable” hospital set up was displayed recently at the G20 summit in Gandhinagar, Gu- jarat. Top health ministry officials said it was developed by a task force appointed by the ministry of defence under the Bhishma project in the aftermath of the pandemic and beginning of the Ukraine-Russia conflict. “A war or a natural disaster can hit any country, and we need to be prepared to attend to the medical needs arising thereof in any location,” said an official.
