Mumbai : Close to 600 colleges — autonomous and those with PG departments — and 13 public universities in the state will roll out the National Education Policy (NEP) this academic year. They will offerthe four-year degree, the most important transition under NEP, as well as the existing three-year course. In Mumbai, 57 colleges, including St Xavier’s, Jai Hind, Mithibai and Ruia, will be offering the four-year programme.
For 100% implementation in the state, a plan will be drawn out by September, all problems will be ironed out by December, and the policy will roll out for next year’s admission. While the earlier plan was to implement NEP across board from this year, vicechancellors sought more time to prepare for it in a meeting with higher education minister Chandrakant Patil.
The state, meanwhile, is planning to make degree certificates available on digilockers as soon as marksheets are generated by universities.
